Cara
Callaway started training her first two Australian Cattle Dogs in
agility in 1994. Both dogs and handler have had significant success in
competition since then, ranking consistently in the top 3 in the Front &
Finish yearly standings for several years.
One of her ACD’s, Teddy, won a Silver Medal in the State Team
Competitions at the 1998 AKC National Agility Championships in Atlanta ,
GA. Scout finished in 13th Place out of 120 dogs at that competition, while
Teddy finished 16th. Teddy was honored with the Australian Cattle Dog Club
of America’s “High Point Agility Dog” award in 1998 and 1999, and awarded
High Scoring Australian Cattle Dog at the 2001 Cattle Dog Specialty in
Portland, OR. They also compete in USDAA and NADAC. In addition to her own
dogs, Cara also trains and competes with a wide variety of her clients’
dogs. |

Cara
started teaching agility in 1995 and has started hundreds of dogs and
handlers in the sport. Many of her students are now competing at Novice
through Masters level with great success, and many are Nationally ranked.
Because Australian Cattle Dogs are not the easiest breed to train and
handle, she is especially good with students with “difficult” dogs, and
loves the challenge of dogs that need extra motivational training. She
currently teaches more than a dozen classes a week ranging from first time
beginners to masters level competitors and takes great pride in her
students’ achievements. Through Jump City Agility, Cara also creates
agility workshops to fit the specific needs of groups and clubs. She also
puts on several agility demonstrations a year for various charitable
organizations including Guide Dogs of America’s “Dog Jog” in Brentwood, CA,
the Sepulveda Basin Off Leash Dog Park Faire in Encino, CA, New Leash on
Life’s “All Mutt Dog Show”, and the West Valley Animal Shelter in
Northridge, CA.
Cara’s love for the sport of dog agility and her joy at witnessing the
enhancement of the bond between dog and handler with her students, keeps
her classes fun and upbeat. She keeps her training skills on the cutting
edge through agility clinics and seminars presented by the top trainers
from both the United States and Europe.
